Brendam Docks
The club have decided to build a layout based on the children’s television series Thomas The Tank Engine. Brendam Docks is featured in the series and that is where the layout will be based on.
The general track plan is drawn up and it will feature a station, turntable, working crane, plus other features. Children will be able to see their favourite characters from the television series as well as interact with the layout.
A series of buttons on the front of the layout will allow children to activate certain ‘features’ on the layout. Henry the helicopter will rotate when a button is pressed and Cranky the crane will also move. The turntable will be operated from the front allowing children to rotate the trains so that they can run round and couple back on to the coaches.
There will also be a small quiz for children to take part in at exhibitions. They will be asked to spot the amount of Troublesome Trucks for example, and find the Fat Controller. A prize will be given at the end of the day having drawn a winning entry from a hat.
The layout itself will feature an engine shed, sidings and cranes at the docklands
end. A branch line will link the fiddle yard to the docks on the front of the layout.
Two separate lines will run from the fiddle yard across the rear of the layout. These
will enter a station where the trains will be uncoupled and continue to the turntable.
They will then be rotated round so that they can re-
The aim is to have the layout complete and operational for the Bingham Summer Fair during the summer of 2010.
